Department of Psychology

The department of psychology at St. Thomas College, Konni Excel and aim at cultivating young minds to prosper in the field of psychological science, research and practice. The undergraduates are trained to pioneer in the field through a four year journey encompassing all the essence of learning, moulding and structuring themselves not only as informative adults in the field but also with an enriched sense of service to the society. The department offers an innovative learning platform with faculties excelled in the field, a gateway for psychological testing and experiments through the provision of a psychology laboratory within the college and facilities to avail in field experiences through practical application of the academic knowledge in internship.

Innovative teaching styles are adopted by the faculties, with a friendly approach and thorough guidance enabling the better delivery of resources to each student. Individual mentorships and guidance by the faculties to avail internships at prestigious organisations and settings. The department offers spacious specialised psychological laboratory with various assessments and experimental tools to practically grasp the concepts. Receiving insight and excellence in the psychological phenomena through conduction of various activities, workshops, seminars and classes held by professionals from outside the college marks another unique characteristics of the department. The students are given opportunities of field visits apart from internship, including visits to various psychological institutions, rehabilitation centres and exhibitions held outside to widen their abilities and blossom into efficient professionals. Student’s well being in both academics and life is taken in consideration by encouraging them to host classes, community outreach programs and services outside the campus, shaping them into responsible adults in the profession.

BSc Psychology (Honours)

Psychology makes a substantial contribution to the progress of individuals as well as society at large by providing insights into human behaviour and promoting a better knowledge of mental processes.

In comparison to the previous three-year bachelor’s degree, Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala states that the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology Honours course is intended to give students a thorough, in-depth understanding of psychological principles and research methodologies. Core subjects include developmental psychology, social psychology, cognitive psychology, biological psychology, and research methods are usually included in the curriculum. In addition, students study applicable fields such as organizational behaviour and clinical psychology. Candidates who have passed plus two or equivalent examinations recognized by the M.G. University as equivalent thereto are eligible to study at BSc psychology colleges in Kerala.

The goal of the BSc Psychology Honour’s program is to educate graduates for professions in human resources, mental health, counselling, and research, as well as for graduate study. The primary objective is to produce competent, socially conscious psychologists with a strong emphasis on critical analysis, self-reflection, empathy, and respect for the diversity of individuals. A résumé and academic credentials can be improved with an honours degree, which is recognized as a symbol of greater academic achievement and dedication. Graduates with honours are frequently better positioned to pursue advanced academic programs like master’s or doctoral degrees, as well as specialized roles and research positions in psychology.
